THE ABYSSINIAN
CAT.
![]()
Abyssinians are the type of cat
that do not like to be left
out of anything that their owners are doing. Whatever you do, he or she will
want to join in, be it in the sitting room, bedroom, or even the loo, there is
no hiding place! When you arrive home they will greet you by jumping up onto
your shoulders and head butting you in the nicest possible way. Now we get on
to the subject of the aby language, they 'chirrup' rather than
meow, a bit like a mother cat talking to her kittens and heaven help you if you
do not talk back to them when they are talking to you. With regards to
playtime, I think there is a bit of 'the collie' in abys, because they will
bring back most toys you throw for them, whether it is a piece of paper rolled
into a ball, a toy mouse or small soft ball, they will also bring you things
you do not expect like your clean socks out of the ironing basket.

Abyssinian Colours.
Abys come in various colours. The four most well known colours are:- The Usual whose overall appearance is a rich golden brown ticked with black, the base hair or undercoat is a ruddy orange or apricot and the nose leather is brick red with black pads. The Sorrel has a lustrous copper ticked with chocolate, the base hair or undercoat is a bright apricot and the nose leather and pads are pink. The Blue has a soft warm blue ticked with a deeper blue grey, the base hair is a pinkish mushroom and the nose leather is dark pink and mauvish blue pads. The Fawn has a warm fawn ticked with a deeper fawn, base hair is fawny cream and nose and pad colour is pink. All the above colours have Championship status.
All the above colours have
Championship status. There are many other
colours, but we have only covered the above 4 for the time being, and will
give
more info on this as the site expands.
Abyssinian cats are one of the
oldest
breeds of cat. They are reputedly descendants of the ancient cats of Egypt,
worshipped as gods by the Pharaohs.

Buying an Aby.
Thinking of buying an Aby well here are the most asked
questions.
Question 1. Sociable or unsociable? Definitely the former They
want to be
around you all the time. In fact I don't think the second word is in the Aby
Dictionary.
Question 2. What do they eat? They like
most foods like chicken, chicken, fish, chicken, tinned food, dried food
biscuits did I mention chicken. They also like to eat most of what you are
eating especially if it's CHICKEN.
Question 3. Do they get on with
other cats? It's more like do other cats get on with Abys because as stated
above Abys are very sociable. More questions to follow.
What to expect with your New Arrival.
Well the new addition has arrived home and you are wondering
how the kitten will settle in. Most Abys can
take from as little as a couple of days, or as long as a week or two to settle
into their new home depending on existing cats in the home. However, if you are
lucky ( as were we with our LEO ) the new Aby will come bounding in and
introduce
himself as if to say well I'm here and I'm taking over the place. Of course, the
kitten will want a lot of human attention, lucky you, but will also
be eager to explore the all purpose built battlefield, disaster zone, lightning
fast running tracks, sorry I meant new home!! Watch out for
dangers in and around the home, especially in the kitchen and bathroom and of
course not forgetting those lovely house plants and flowers we all love to
have. We'll do more of that on our next update.
